Lady's Story

Lady is a rescued shepherd mix, and the path to where she is today was not an easy one — Lady experienced severe abuse and neglect prior to her rescue. But through courage, optimism, and grit, she willed her way from a hard start to the life she has today. Now she lives with Lauren in Venice Beach, where her days are built around sunny naps in the garden and daily zoomies on the beach. She loves running and playing in the sand with new friends, barking at the ocean, and guarding the house against any and all mail carriers. Eating chicken remains her greatest ambition and passion in life. Roasted, boiled, dehydrated or freeze dried, she does not discriminate. Her wildest dream is to one day catch a squirrel.

Lady more than just a Venice Beach girlie and Lauren's baby — she is the muse and inspiration behind The Stick, embodying the care, sophistication, and joy the brand was built around.

Lauren's Story

Lauren's dream since childhood was to be an artist, though for most of her professional career she worked in business consulting and marketing. Now, The Stick is Lauren's lifelong creative dream come true. Her guiding belief is simple: the objects we choose for our dogs should be as design-considered and optimized for well-being as the objects we choose for ourselves. That belief, paired with a deep commitment to living by her core values, shapes every decision behind the brand. Creating products that genuinely improve a dog's health or enrichment matters to her every bit as much as the creative process and aesthetic behind them — one doesn't come at the expense of the other, but rather, they each inspire the other.

This devotion extends to all aspects of product design, including material science: many dog bowls on the market — including popular ones found online — are made from 201 or 202 stainless steel, a non-food-grade and corrosive metal, while even the best brands stop at 304 stainless steel, the entry-level grade for human food contact. Lauren went further, asking, what is the BEST available material for dogs health, which lead her to sourcing 316, surgical and marine-grade stainless — the first of its kind in a dog bowl — to address the risk of heavy metals leaching into your dog's water over a lifetime of use.
